Physics Current Electricity Instrument MCQ (Single Correct)

A battery of emf 1.4 V and internal resistance 2 Ω Ω is connected to a resistor of 100 Ω Ω through an ammeter. The resistance of the ammeter is 4/3 Ω Ω . A voltmeter has also been connected to find the potential difference across the resistor.

(i) Draw the circuit diagram.

(ii) The ammeter reads 0.02 A. What is the resistance of the voltmeter?

(iii) The voltmeter reads 1.10 V, what is the zero error in the voltmeter?

(Hint: zero error = observed reading – actual reading)

The correct answer is:
CHECK THE SOLUTION.

[(i)

(ii) 200 Ω Ω

(iii) = –0.23 V]

Sol. (i)

(ii) R eq = 2 + + = =

i = , 0.02 = × (300 + 3 r)

310 r + 1000 = 21000 + 210 r

10 r = 2000

r = 200 Ω Ω Ans.

(iii) V = i r = 0.02 × = = 1.33

Zero error = 1.1 – 1.33 = –0.23 V Ans.
